The Role


We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Biosecurity Waste Handling Officer to join our team at Melbourne Airport. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe collection, handling, segregation, and disposal of biosecurity and airline catering waste in accordance with strict regulatory and airport compliance standards.
This is a critical role in maintaining biosecurity integrity, workplace safety, and environmental compliance within a fast-paced aviation catering environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, transport, and dispose of biosecurity and catering waste in line with airport and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure correct segregation of waste streams, including general waste, recyclable materials, and biosecurity-controlled items.
  • Operate waste handling equipment safely and in accordance with procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all waste collection and storage areas.
  • Follow strict biosecurity protocols and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct routine checks of waste storage areas to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Report any breaches, hazards, or non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with catering, transport, and facilities teams to support smooth operations.
  • Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) and airport security procedures.


Selection Criteria

  • Previous experience in waste management, industrial cleaning, catering support, or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of hygiene, safety, and compliance procedures.
  • Ability to follow strict biosecurity and operational protocols.
  • Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work across a seven-day rotating roster, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Full Australian working rights.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
